Fundamentals of marksmanship
The PRINCIPLES OF MARKSMANSHIP will vastly improve your ability to engage targets more accurately at longer ranges. NO ONE PRINCIPLE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE OTHER. They are all used as a cohesive package. These follow order of precedence not importance.
1. BODY ALIGNMENT( Your body must align to the target in the most natural manner).
2. STOCK WELD ( Your cheek should touch the stock in the most natural manner as to allow the same placement for every shot).
3. SIGHT ALIGNMENT AND SIGHT PICTURE( You should see the clear tip of your front sight post in the blurry rear aperture),
4. BREATH CONTROL ( Breathe normally and time your shots with the natural pause between the rise and fall of your chest).
5. BONE SUPPORT ( Always use bone support, an example is elbow to knee in the kneeling position)
6. TRIGGER CONTROL ( Pull the trigger straight to the rear and do not jerk the gun).
7. FOLLOW THROUGH ( Immediately after the shot. keep the weapon pointed down range toward the target aiming through the sights and do not look up to see the target. This will ensure that the bb has left the barrel and can no longer affect the shot.
Other considerations are: do not cant the weapon, this could make your shots go left or right, so keep the gun straight up and down. In rapid fire semi auto don't jerk the trigger. Keep a firm hold on the pistol grip, but don't hold it so tight your knuckles turn white. The stock should be high in the pocket of the shoulder. This ensures that your head is straight up and down and you are not cranking your neck to see through the sights. When you are target shooting use the same gear as you would wear in the game . Mask, vest, gloves. These items can considerably affect your sight alignment and stock weld. If you practice these fundamentals it will become second nature. This will also build your confidence that your target got hit without having to see where your bb's are going. Practice shooting at longer distances so you will know the farthest distance you can shoot accurately.
